What is a hybrid mattress?
A hybrid mattress combines a pocket sprung base with one or more foam or gel comfort layers on top. The result is a mattress that delivers the best characteristics of both spring and foam construction.
Who is a hybrid mattress best suited for?
Hybrid mattresses work well for a wide range of sleepers, which is part of why they've become so popular. They're particularly good for combination sleepers who change position during the night, couples with different firmness preferences, and anyone who likes the feel of memory foam but finds a pure foam mattress too warm or unsupportive around the edges. If you're upgrading from a traditional spring mattress and want added comfort without losing support, a hybrid is an excellent choice.
Are hybrid mattresses good for back pain?
Many people with back pain find hybrid mattresses very effective. Are hybrid mattresses suitable for adjustable beds?
Standard hybrid mattresses are not suitable for adjustable beds — the pocket spring unit is rigid and cannot flex around the articulating sections of an adjustable base. If you have or are purchasing an adjustable bed frame, you'll need a mattress specifically designed for it, typically a flexible foam or specialist hybrid built with a coil system that can bend. How thick should a hybrid mattress be?
