Yes, donating your old mattress is a great alternative to recycling, as long as it meets specific requirements.
Eligibility for donation:
- Condition: The mattress must be clean, with no major stains, rips, or tears.
- Fire safety label: In the UK, mattresses must have an intact fire safety label confirming compliance with British Fire Safety Regulations.
Charities accepting mattress donations:
- British Heart Foundation — provides free collection services for donated mattresses, sold in their stores to fund charitable work.
- Furniture Donation Network — submit an online form with photos to schedule a free collection. Donated items help previously homeless individuals furnish their new homes.
If your mattress isn't suitable for donation, many local councils offer bulky waste collection services which may include mattresses.

As part of our service, we can remove and recycle your old bed or mattress when we deliver your new one. To add this option, simply proceed to the first stage of checkout after adding your product to the shopping cart — there you'll be able to select the item(s) and quantity you'd like us to remove.

To ensure a smooth and efficient collection, please have your items prepared before the delivery team arrives. See the specific instructions for each item type below.
Wrap your mattress fully and have it ready for the delivery team to collect. The delivery team will supply 1 collection label per mattress — please ensure you do not exceed 1 consignment for collection.
Please dismantle the bed base or frame and wrap it fully in advance. Present it for collection in a maximum of 4 consignments. Bedstar will supply up to 4 collection labels — please do not exceed 4 consignments for collection.

- Please have all items ready for collection before the delivery team arrives.
- All goods should be fully wrapped, collected from inside the property, and dry.
- Providing items are wrapped correctly, we will be happy to collect them during the course of our visit.
We will not be able to take any items that are not prepared as per the above instructions or that are not yet ready to be collected. Any goods left outside, not wrapped, or wet will result in a failed collection. A further collection will need to be booked and will incur an additional charge.
