What's the difference between pocket springs and open coil springs?
Open coil (or continuous coil) springs are all connected to each other via a single wire running through the mattress. Pocket springs are completely separate from each other, so they react only to the weight directly above them. Can I use a pocket spring mattress on a memory foam topper?
Yes — a memory foam or wool topper placed on top of a pocket spring mattress is a very popular combination. A topper is a cost-effective way to add softness or pressure relief to a mattress that's slightly too firm, and the pocket springs underneath still provide the support and motion isolation they're known for. Bear in mind that a topper will add to the overall depth of the sleeping surface, so you may need deep-pocket fitted sheets. If your mattress already has a thick comfort layer, adding a topper may make the overall feel too soft.
